MISSOURI—Today, seven progressive organizations representing thousands of St. Louisans across the region have joined forces to say YES! to Treasurer Tishaura Jones for Mayor of St. Louis City. Treasurer Jones has secured the leading number of endorsements from local progressive and grassroots organizations in her bid for mayor, including: Action St. Louis Power Project, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, Organization for Black Struggle, SEIU Missouri/Kansas State Council, St. Louis Young Democrats, and UAW Local 2250.
These endorsements are a testament to Treasurer Jones’ commitment to harnessing the power of people to transform and unify St. Louis. Working hand-in-hand with leaders in our community, Treasurer Jones is the only candidate for Mayor of St. Louis who can move St. Louis towards a truly just and equal future for all.
Statement from Kayla Reed, Executive Director, Action St. Louis Power Project
“St. Louis is at an inflection point. We can continue to elect leadership that is beholden to wealthy donors and corporate interests or we can elect a mayor who will fight for everyday people in this city. Our communities are suffering and for too long our voices have been ignored and our needs unmet. Tishaura Jones has a record of being a responsive and accountable leader and those are the attributes we deserve in a mayor.
“The issues facing our communities deserve ingenuity, collaboration and bold ideas. Everyday our organizations work with and for the most marginalized people in this city and we agree that Tishaura Jones will lead this city towards a vision of equity, justice and transformation.”
Statement from Jay Ozier, President, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists
“The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists take great pride in their endorsement of Tishaura Jones for Mayor of the City of St. Louis. We support Tishaura Jones for Mayor, because of her bold, dynamic and progressive leadership. Her leadership as a Missouri State Representative and St. Louis City Treasurer demonstrates her belief in social, economic, and racial justice for all people in our city.
“Tishaura has the leadership, experience, and expertise to guide St. Louis through some of our greatest challenges, such as the COVID-19 crisis, criminal justice reform, gun violence and ensuring the rights and dignity of all workers. Tishaura Jones has earned the endorsement of a diverse coalition of community, labor and activist groups across our city. She is a unifying force and will ensure justice for all people in St. Louis no matter what part of the city they live in.”
Statement from Mallory Schwarz, Executive Director, NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri
“The overwhelming support for Tishaura Jones by our network of people-powered organizations is proof that St. Louis City is ready for a progressive leader who reflects the people of this city. Since day one, Tishaura has fought for a St. Louis where everybody has full control over their body, health, and future. From expanding access to abortion and the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare, to confronting systemic racism and securing protections for LGBTQ+ folks, she is building a city that works for all of us. Tishaura Jones is a champion for the people of St. Louis City. NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri and our 10,000+ members in St. Louis City are grateful for the chance to work hand-in-hand with a coalition of community leaders to elect Tishaura Jones as Mayor of St. Louis City.”
Statement from Jamala Rogers, Founding Member, Organization for Black Struggle
“The growth and development of St. Louis has been stagnant for years, racism choking the life force of the city. Everywhere OBS has gone to campaign for Tishaura Jones, we have found enthusiastic support for her candidacy. People are so ready for the fresh, unifying leadership that they have seen in Tishaura’s years as a trusted public servant. We say Yes! to a brighter future for St. Louis.”
Statement from Maureen Sims, SEIU Local 1 Janitor, SEIU Missouri/Kansas State Council
“Front-line essential workers—janitors, healthcare workers, nursing home workers and more—are saying yes to Tishaura Jones because we trust her to lead St. Louis in a new direction. When janitors marched through downtown St. Louis in the freezing cold for a strong new contract, Tishaura Jones marched right alongside us. She has stood with working people for stronger COVID-19 protections on the job. Actions speak louder than words, and I’ve seen first-hand how she fights for St. Louis working families—not the wealthy and well-connected.”
Statement from Tess Yocom, President, St. Louis Young Democrats
“St. Louis Young Democrats are proud to endorse Tishaura Jones for mayor of St. Louis City. From calling for The Workhouse to close in 2016 to establishing the College Kids Children’s Savings Account Program, Tishaura has always spearheaded progressive values that put working people first. We have the chance to elect a champion who will fight for racial equity and economic opportunity for all St. Louisans. We’re thrilled to be on #TeamTJ and endorse her campaign to become the first Black woman to serve as mayor of St. Louis.”
Statement from Fredrick Jamison, President, UAW Local 2250
“St. Louis City deserves leadership that will ensure all workers have a voice in decision making and a seat at the table. Tishaura Jones is that leader. Time and again, she has proven to be a leader that can unite St. Louis City across issues and industry. As Mayor, she will center the needs of workers to ensure that everyone has the union rights they need to be treated with respect and dignity. UAW proudly supports Tishaura Jones for Mayor of St. Louis City.”
